Bean for Mac is a small, easy-to-use word processor that is designed to make writing convenient, efficient and comfortable. The tool is lean, fast and uncluttered. It starts up quickly, has a live word count, and is easy on the eyes. Also, Bean for macOS is available free of charge.

MS Word, OpenOffice, etc. try to be all things to all people, but sometimes you just want the right tool for the job. That is Bean's niche.

The app has some limitations: it doesn't do footnotes or use stylesheets and is only partially compatible with Word's file formats. Also, it allows in-line graphics, but not floating graphics.

What's new in this version:

Fixed:
- Fixed a problem on MacOS 15 Sequoia where selecting Settings… > Save > “Suggest filename at first save” would cause the File Format control in the save panel to ignore the default save format
- Placing the insertion point after an emoji and then typing could unexpectedly change the font, so now we look ahead and use the following font, or else we use previous typing attributes
- Fixed a problem where closing a single-document window and then restarting the app, while Settings > General > "Open documents in grouped window" is selected, would force the grouped document window to adopt the single-document window size due to Appkit's window restoration mechanism
- The text ruler now correctly places the origin on the right for right-to-left text
