Fixes and Improvements:
- Score Editor – New Features and Enhancements
- You can now create Glissandi and Arpeggiation lines directly from the Ornaments options of the Symbols tab
- The new Interpretation page of the Score Settings dialog gives you control over syncing tempo items in the score and offers a new “Fill Gaps” display quantize option that affects the entire score
- When importing a Dorico project, a new dialog allows you to select the flow that you want to import
- A new setting on the Staves and Systems page of the Layout Settings dialog allows you to show or hide system dividers
- Time signatures imported from Dorico now correctly reflect beat groupings and follow the click pattern grouping
- The Score menu now includes a Reset Properties command, allowing you to easily revert to default voice assignments, spellings, and detected note durations
- The Instrument Settings dialog now offer an option to use track names as staff labels. The default behavior of this option can be configured via Preferences > Editor > Score Editor
- A new preference in Editor > Score Editor allows you to control Acoustic Feedback for individual notes entered with the Draw tool
- The automatic detection of grace notes has been improved, for greater accuracy
- Notes with staccato and staccatissimo markings are now identified more reliably
- Note spelling now avoids less desirable options like E?, C?, and double sharps/flats
- The Draw tool now supports tuplets, allowing for seamless creation while drawing notes
- Keyswitch notes no longer affect the spelling of other notes
- Gradual dynamics created in the Articulation lane are now displayed with the correct duration
- Dragging Repeat Ending lines now works smoothly and consistently
- Changing the tempo outside the Score Editor no longer bears the risk of causing instability
- The “Nudge Right” key command now works correctly on chords
- The “Solo” key command is now fully functional in the Score Editor
- Notes that overlap barlines no longer disappear when editing unrelated notes
- Display Quantize now works properly with fixed settings like 1/32T and 1/64T

Dorico Project Import Improvements:
- Importing the first flow now works, even if the flow was rearranged or deleted in the Dorico project
- The original instrument order is now retained when importing Dorico projects
- Projects with custom page pairs are now imported properly
- Projects with more than two voices per hand now retain all notes
- Notes with playback position offsets are now imported more reliably
- Flow headings are no longer shown during import
- Ossia and Extra staves are excluded from the import, as intended
- Tempo items created in Dorico’s Play Mode are now set to be hidden in the Score Editor

DAWproject:
- Compressor settings in the Channel Strip now remain intact after reactivating a project
- Channel Strip effects are now transferred more reliably between projects

Audio Processing and Editing:
- You can now enter negative values for the “Pitch Shift” process again
- Audio waveform images are now properly displayed after processing
- Edit > Range commands (e.g. “Delete Time”) now handle automation data properly when “Automation Follows Events” is enabled
- Automation data on VCA tracks can now be deleted using the Range Selection tool without causing any issues
- “Export Range” settings are now saved and restored in subsequent sessions, to ensure a smooth workflow
- Exporting with Cycle Markers now works properly
- Audio Export processes are now successfully completed when Modulators are used
- FLAC files imported into 32-bit float projects are now processed without distortion
- The “Set Locators to Selection Range” command in the In-Place Editor now works as expected
- Muted events are now rendered correctly
- Event Volume Curves are now taken into account when using the “Minimize File” option in the Pool
- You can now use Split Channels for multiple selected events simultaneously, to streamline multitrack editing workflows
- When making Direct Offline Processes permanent, audio file metadata is now preserved, ensuring that important file information remains intact throughout the workflow

MediaBay:
- Broadcast Wave File tagging now preserves the “BWF Origin Time” setting in the iXML chunk
- Malformed BWF files can now be tagged safely, without the risk of corruption or file size inflation
- Audio files retain their integrity when their metadata is edited in the MediaBay
- The result list in the MediaBay now retains focus after interacting with previewer controls

MIDI and Instruments:
- Instrument Track MIDI input channel settings are now reliably restored when reopening projects
- Projects now remain stable when Drum Machine samples refer to Pool files with different sample rates
- Modulator assignments to Drum Machine parameters now occur without unexpectedly activating Automation Write mode
- .rx2 files can now be imported directly from the MediaBay using the “Create Sampler Track” option
- CTRL/CMD+Enter now correctly adjusts the Velocity parameter in the Project Window info line
- MIDI data from Bluetooth or other devices with missing timestamps is now handled smoothly, with note events placed accurately
- ‘Extract MIDI Automation’ now reliably preserves CC values
- Patch Banks are properly displayed in the MIDI Device Manager (Cubase LE/AI/Elements)
- MIDI Clock delay compensation is now correctly applied to external instruments, even with complex setups
- Quick Control assignments now persist reliably when switching between open projects

Stability:
- Converting stereo tracks to mono now runs smoothly, even while using Audio Extensions
- Emptying the trash can after removing unused media no longer causes instabilities
- Moving hidden tracks via the “Visibility” tab now works without causing any issues
- Projects with Steinberg UR interfaces now load reliably, even when tracks are deactivated

Video Engine and Display Enhancements:
- Portrait-oriented videos are now properly displayed when Aspect Ratio is set to “Internal.
- Exported videos now show the timecode clearly and legibly
- The Video Player now properly exits full-screen mode when switching to another app
- The Pool window (macOS/Windows) and the Video Import window (Windows only) now display the color space of video files in the info column or the file details
- MP4 files with AAC audio are now imported with accurate audio-to-video sync, ensuring seamless playback
- Connecting or disconnecting a second display on Mac Intel systems no longer causes crashes when the Video Player window is open
- Displaying thumbnails on Video tracks set to the minimal height now works reliably, without causing instability
- For common color spaces, the ITUR-BT name is shown; for uncommon ones, the ITU-T H.273 Code Points are used
- If a video file lacks embedded color tags, Cubase now displays the assumed ´color space, ensuring better transparency and predictability for users
- Videos with embedded color tags are now correctly interpreted as Narrow Range, fixing an issue where all .mov and .mp4 files were previously displayed as Full Range on Windows, and DNxHD .mov files on macOS and Windows. This ensures that the visual dynamic range is properly displayed, without compression
- Video engine positioning accuracy has been improved. Locating is now frame-accurate, fixing issues where the video was off by one frame or didn’t refresh
- Positioning of portrait-oriented videos using the “Aspect Ratio: Internal” setting is now correctly handled in the built-in Video Window
- The Blackmagic Output Format selection in the Video settings has been redesigned, to improve clarity and ease of use
- Two new ITUR-BT709 color space variations have been added to the Video File Color Space override
- ITUR-BT709 EBU3321 – Gamma 1.96 for content graded for web viewing or Apple QuickTime Player
- ITUR-BT709 G1.3 – Gamma 1.3 (equivalent to 2.4/1.8), for detail visibility enhancement in dark areas, ideal for Foley artists
- Blackmagic 10-bit Y’CbCr output is now supported. While only ProRes videos are decoded in 10-bit, all other video codecs are compatible with rendering on the 10-bit output, expanding the flexibility for high-quality video monitoring

Other Enhancements:
- Tempo Detection now reliably handles values between 1 and 360 BPM
- Delay compensation now works consistently, regardless of the channel configuration
- Entering locators values now works as intended, including entering “0”
- The Project Logical Editor presets “Nudge Parts or Events inside Cycle +/-1 Frame” now work as expected, improving precision during timeline editing
- The mouse wheel behavior in the fader area has been improved. When Disable Mouse Wheel for Parameter Change is enabled, horizontal scrolling is now supported across the MixConsole and the Lower Zone, resulting in a smoother navigation experience
- Cleaning up automation data after stopping a recording is now significantly faster
- Adjusting Cue Sends with Quick Link enabled now works perfectly in relative mode
- Jog wheel adjustments for shuttle speed now work smoothly, even when they are not engaged during playback
- Navigation using the Previous/Next Hitpoint transport functions is now performed accurately
- Playback of audio tracks in folder tracks with Group Editing and “Phase-Coherent AudioWarp” enabled now continues reliably
- Pressing the spacebar no longer triggers unexpected text input in the Inspector controls
- Menus with many entries are now easier to use, thanks to searchable pop-up windows
- The “Drag & Drop” category is now visible again in Preferences > Editing > Tool Modifiers
- ModScripter scripts with varied line endings now run reliably, without causing crashes
- The “Note Gate” preset in ModScripter is now applied as intended


Cubase Pro 14.0.20
- The Cubase 14.0.20 maintenance update is now available. In addition to numerous fixes and improvements, this update introduces new features in several areas, including the Score Editor, the Pattern Editor, Audio Export, and Event Volume Curve editing, to significantly enhance your workflow. Furthermore, Cubase 14.0.20 now officially supports Windows on Arm.


Cubase Pro 14
Improvement and changes:
Performance:
- We have updated key data structures in our code base to optimize memory allocation. This is positively impacting overall performance, especially in areas where large amounts of data are handled—such as start-up time, loading and saving large projects, and moving a significant number of events at once.
- Single Installer for Pro, Artist, Elements, AI, and LE
- All Cubase versions are now available through a single installer. Whether you’re installing Cubase Elements or Cubase Pro, the same installer applies, with the version that opens determined solely by your license. Upgrading from Elements to Cubase Pro no longer requires a reinstall.

The new Score Editor built upon Dorico technology:
- Cubase 14 introduces a completely revamped Score Editor powered by Dorico, our renowned music notation and composition software. This new Dorico-based Score Editor replaces the previous version, bringing numerous enhancements and a refined focus.
- The new Score Editor is designed to provide a powerful and intuitive notation-based MIDI editor. It allows you to quickly and easily view and edit your music in notation form, producing clear and legible parts ideal for simple live recording projects.
- You can now export your Cubase projects directly to Dorico, enabling you to leverage Dorico’s advanced music formatting and layout features when needed.
- Utilizing Dorico’s sophisticated quantization and transcription algorithms, the new Score Editor automatically splits music into independent polyphonic voices and applies publisher-quality music spacing and layout algorithms, resulting in more beautiful and readable notation both on screen and on paper.
- While the new Score Editor incorporates some of Dorico’s features, it is designed to look and feel consistent with other MIDI editors in Cubase. This ensures a seamless experience whether or not you are familiar with Dorico.
- If you found the previous Score Editor challenging to produce legible results, we encourage you to try the new version. It significantly reduces the time and effort required to achieve professional-looking notation.

Still, there are some limitations you should be aware of:
- MusicXML import is not supported yet, but it will be implemented in the future.
- Some score symbols, such as Arpeggio, Glissandi, or Octave lines, are not available yet.
- Since the technology behind the new Score Editor is completely new, importing scores from projects created with the previous Score Editor is only partially possible. We have created a Steinberg Help Article that documents the limitations in detail.
- Cubase 14 marks the beginning of a new era in integrating our leading DAW with our music notation software. We are committed to extending the functionality of the new Score Editor and developing additional features to further integrate Cubase and Dorico in future updates.

DAWproject Support:
- We are excited to introduce support for DAWproject files in Cubase 14. DAWproject is an open file format enabling seamless project transfers between DAWs, offering users greater flexibility and efficiency. This format allows you to transfer entire projects with the full structure—tracks, channels, and groups—preserved, eliminating the need to export individual stems and reducing time and effort.
- When importing a DAWproject file into another DAW, all elements remain intact, including tracks, groups, colors, markers, events, fades, MIDI, and plug-in settings. This facilitates smooth collaboration, easier transitions between music software, and a greater focus on creativity over technical tasks.
- We collaborated closely with the Bitwig team to integrate DAWproject support in Cubase, and we’re thrilled about the benefits this will bring to customers working across multiple DAWs. While automation and crossfades are not fully supported in this initial Cubase 14 release, we plan to expand these features in upcoming maintenance updates.

Project compatibility:
- Cubase 14 introduces two major changes affecting forward compatibility with older Cubase versions, meaning that not all previous versions will be able to open projects created in Cubase 14. However, the backward compatibility of Cubase 14 is not impacted—you can still open projects from previous versions in Cubase 14.
- With a complete redesign of event volume curve technology, Cubase 14 projects have limited forward compatibility in versions before Cubase 13.0.50. Event volume curves created in Cubase 14 can only be correctly reproduced in Cubase 13.0.50 or later. In earlier versions, these curves will reflect incorrect volume levels.

This applies to:
- Cubase 14 projects
- Tracks from Cubase 14 projects
- Cubase 14 track archives with event volume curves
- Older version event volume curves remain compatible in Cubase 14. For versions 13.0.50 and later, a converter is included to ensure correct reproduction of Cubase 14 event volumes. Additionally, in the Export Track Archive function (exporting selected tracks), there is a new compatibility option to support earlier versions.
- Cubase 14 also introduces a 64-bit project file format, enabling project files larger than 2 GB. This improvement addresses limitations encountered with audio extensions and certain third-party instruments that store data directly within project files. Projects saved in Cubase 14 will default to this 64-bit “RIF2” format, compatible only with Cubase and Nuendo versions 13.0.30 or newer. Projects saved in the older 32-bit format will remain in that format unless specific conditions are met, as detailed in the Help Center article.

End of VST 2 Compatibility Support:
- As previously announced, Cubase 14 marks the end of official compatibility support for VST 2 plug-ins. By default, the VST 2 plug-in scan is disabled in the VST Plug-in Manager, with only the VST 3 plug-in folder being scanned.
- VST 2 plug-ins can still be loaded (except on native Apple Silicon) if the VST 2 plug-in scanner is manually enabled in the VST Plug-in Manager. However, Steinberg will no longer provide support for any issues related to VST 2.


Cubase Pro 13
- The update introduces many fixes and improvements in several areas of the application. Instantly noticeable are the improvements to the user interface. We have carefully analyzed the user feedback after the release and made several refinements, mostly in the MixConsole and the Project window. Another major improvement is the change to the project file format which now allows file sizes of more than 2GB.

- Customers who have activated Cubase Pro 10.5, Cubase Artist 10.5 and Cubase Elements 10.5 or earlier versions since October 14, 2020, are eligible for a free, downloadable Grace Period update to the latest version, respectively.
