Kext Wizard for Mac is a very useful system utility that enables users of all knowledge levels to effortlessly install, analyze and manage kexts (kernel extensions) on your Macintosh computer. The kernel is the core of every operating system and enhancing its capabilities with custom services can enable users to dramatically increase their productivity or even gain access to specific hardware accessory that is not officially supported by Apple. Because kexts are responsible for recognizing unrecognized hardware in MacOS, Kext Wizard for macOS can be very useful on “Hackintosh” machines, help them recognize exotic hardware for managing sound, ethernet, and much more.

Built with ease-of-use in mind, the app is a lightweight that can be easily operated by both novices and professionals, with built-in capability to perform tasks such as repair permissions, rebuild cache, install new kexts, unpack kextx archives, showcase its full description, and perform overview of all currently loaded kexts by the MacOS.

Installation and Use

The software is an incredibly small utility that can be installed on your Mac in mere seconds.  To install it, you can of course simply drag and drop it to your Application directory. If you want to not run the app in the independent mode, you can specify in the app settings which is your specific OS. The latest version of the app works on Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion.

The main window of the Kext Wizard for Mac has a very user-friendly interface with a layout that immediately showcases the main tools and services this app provides. Simply navigate through the apps Tabs (Maintenance, Installation, Unpacker, Ketx Info and Loaded) and access tools for managing your kexts. This includes rebuilding and repairing kext permissions and rebuilding the cache (with support for target drive). You can easily unpack and see the architecture and dependencies of each kexts, install them and more. The last tab (Loaded) showcases the list of every kernel extension that is currently active on your MacOS. The list can be exported to the text file if you wish.

Installation and Maintenance of kexts can be executed on any local Mac OS X partition, not only /.
